WELCOME TO THE NYSSA MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELING PAGE

Morganne

My name is Morganne De Leon. I am so excited for this school year! This is my 10th year as a School Counselor and it blows my mind how fast time flies. My husband Bobby and our four children-Natalie, Nikolai, Noah and Nathaniel are my favorite humans in the whole wide world. My past time hobbies are baking, organizing and planning for holidays/birthdays. I have a slight obsession with coffee, pickles and cheese.  I am a firm believer of the healing powers of connection as well as being seen and heard which makes being a counselor an amazing experience. Well, enough about me...

What does a School Counselor do?I have the opportunity of working with students through classroom lessons, small group, and individual counseling. I also collaborate with school staff and parents in order to best meet the needs of the students.

Individual Counseling: Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges.

Small Group Counseling: A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-7 members and typically meet once a week. I work closely with teachers with the group referral process.

Classroom Visits/Lessons: I visit each classroom and have the chance to interact with every student during these lessons. Lessons typically last 30 minutes in length and cover topics such as understanding feelings of self and others, developing coping and problem-solving skills, friendship skills, and study skills. Lessons provide a SEL (social emotional lesson) to students.

Other Services/Roles: Parent/Teacher consultation, Crisis Counseling/response, 504 Case Manager, IEP support (as needed) , PBIS, Behavior intervention, Referrals for outside services and community resources, Student Leadership-PBIS Student Team Advisor, Conflict management

How do I see Mrs. De Leon?Students are able to see me at any time needed throughout the day. I meet with a student at least twice before reaching out for parent permission. I can be reached by telephone at (541) 372-9334 or option #2 when calling the Middle School. By email at Mdeleon@nyssasd.org
