2020-2021 School Year Update: On-site Learning Model
Thank you to those who completed our 2020-2021 School Year Planning Survey. Feedback from community members, staff, parents, and students is valued and appreciated! The 2020-2021 School Year Planning Survey revealed that 62% of respondents were supportive of the Nyssa School District utilizing an on-site learning model during the 2020-2021 school year, as long as a plan can be developed that prioritizes the safety of students, staff, and the community. Another 26% of respondents felt that a “Hybrid” model of schooling—part in person and part online—was the right choice.
Based on this feedback, the Nyssa School District administration is developing a plan to facilitate on-site learning when students return to school on August 19. Our plan is for all students to return full-time. If some students and/or parents do not feel comfortable returning full-time, we will provide a distance learning option. All schools in the Nyssa School District have the classroom space to meet the requirements outlined by the Oregon Department of Education to educate all students through a fully on-site learning model. Online options for many high school courses will also continue to be available for students in grades 9-12. Nyssa School District staff is working diligently to prepare a plan to safely reopen our schools. However, we ask for your patience as we finalize the specific plan details, as our instructional model must align with guidance that will continue to be updated throughout the summer by the Oregon Department of Education. As soon as we have details for each school finalized, the information will be shared with our school community. It is important to note that our plan may need to be revised based on updates from the Governor, Department of Education, and/or local health authority. You can view the 2020-2021 School Year Planning Survey results pertaining to all three educational models outlined by the Oregon Department of Education below. We truly appreciate your understanding and support as we plan for the 2020-2021 school year. We are anxious to welcome our students back to school on August 19! Darren Johnson Superintendent
