NMS DRESS AND GROOMING - REMINDERS. The district's dress code is established to promote appropriate grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption and avoid safety hazards. The responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the student and their parents or guardians, so please make sure this responsibility is met before arriving at school Dress and grooming must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education, science labs, and other activities where unique hazards exist. Some courses may require specialized attire, such as P.E. uniforms, performance attire, and safety gear. Students who represent the school in a voluntary activity may be required to meet additional dress and grooming standards approved by the principal and may be denied the opportunity to participate if those standards are not met. Students will be sent to the Counselor’s Office/Main Office for unacceptable dress. Students will contact parents and have appropriate clothing brought to school to change into. Students will not be allowed to use a jacket, sweater, sweatshirt, tape, etc., to wear over/cover the unacceptable clothing but will need to replace the clothing that is in violation. Violations may result in disciplinary action. All staff will enforce the student dress code policy. The following is prohibited: Guidelines include, but are not limited to, the following: Clothing that exposes private parts. See-through clothing Exposes underwear beyond strap or band. Exposes armpits Exposes midsection/torso/stomach Has holes, tears, or patches in/on the material. (Both fashion and wear) Does not reach past the middle of the thigh. Depicts, advertises, or encourages the use of controlled substances or weapons. Depicts sexually suggestive art or language. Uses or depicts hate speech targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation or any other protected groups. May not including gang identifiers, including color combinations, or threaten the health or safety of any student or staff. Hats or other head coverings, sunglasses, pajamas, slippers or other clothing which have no specific purposes relating to school. These items may be stored in locker, but not worn in any school buildings or taken to class. They may be allowed during special events such as Spirit Week. Writing on any part of the skin. As a reminder - 1: Parents or older siblings will no longer be able to pick up meals for the child. 2: Only the child is allowed to grab the meal from the meal service line. 3: All children are supposed to consume the meal at the park site. Students are allowed to take home a piece of fruit of a piece of bread. 4: Only lunch will be served at our feeding in the park’s sites and in the cafeteria from July 5 to July 29,2022. Thank You!

The USDA did not renew the waivers to continue previous serving protocols. Nyssa Middle School student and Malheur County Spelling Bee Champion, Ava Anderson, competes tomorrow in the quarterfinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Anderson has made it through the initial three rounds of the Bee, in which more than half of the 250 finalists were eliminated. Watch Ava in the quarterfinals, live-streamed on ION Plus between 9:00 a.m -1:00 p.m ET.
